Once they are at the Peterson house, the player needs to gain access into the basement, which involves sneaking around Nielsen, the AI (who mainly stays in the living room where the basement is). Peterson's old house, which indicates that it is where the player needs to go next. Once the player goes to the main office in the Banner, a small cutscene plays. Whatever location is emphasized, by cutscenes or in-game events, is where the player needs to go during this part of the game. This early on in the Beta, the player cannot walk to many areas yet, as the Guest will catch and send them back to the starting point. Many in-game events are persistent and scheduled in random order, that gives a feeling of a living world.After the tutorial, the player ends up at their main location, the Raven Brooks Banner.Players should find creative solutions to solve the puzzle by combining different items, terrain features and platforming skills.The world changes depending on your actions.Narrative is emergent, depending on how players decide to play the game.

The AI protects its house when the player is trying to break in, and stalks the player when out in the open world.
